5 Tips For a Successful Brand Shoot

What is a brand? The question marketers ask and answer daily. A brand is a compilation of voice, imagery, emotion, and all visual and non visual elements of a business that a consumer thinks about when they think about the business. Sounds complicated right? It doesn’t have to be. Building a brand starts with understanding what you want that brand to represent. Then you consider who it should attract, what it should look like, sound like, and so on. Once you’ve defined these pieces it’s time to do a brand shoot to truly visualize what this brand looks like.

When you’re ready to do your brand shoot, here’s what you need to do.

  1. Create a mood board. Pinterest works great! Find shots that fit the image you’re going for, outfit ideas, poses, props, etc. Compile all inspiration in one place.

  2. Work with a photographer that fits the style of the brand. If you’re looking for bright and airy don’t book someone who typically edits moody. You want to find someone who will fully capture your vision.

  3. If you’re working with models, tell them what to wear, how many outfits to bring, when to arrive, what to expect, and always send them home with something if possible. You want them to have a great experience while working with you so they naturally become fans too.

  4. Have a plan before you begin shooting. Organize your shot list by “must capture/would love to capture/and bonus captures” so that you know what you have to get done before you wrap for the day. If you can stay on schedule, you can get a lot more done.

  5. Make sure your photographer is capturing photos that can be used as vertical and horizontal, you want to make the most out of the photos so you can use them across various platforms.

Bonus: If you have a photographer handling the shoot, capture behind the scenes video shots to turn into reels and Tik Toks.
